from conception to completion

In the old days at Minuteman Press there was an owner, full time press operator (the guy who runs the offset machines), and full or part time counter person. The onset of digital over that last ten years the press operator has often become a part timer and the designer has started working full time.

Today the designer has become the main production person performing the digital printing and finishing. The designer also sets up, and problem solves any design work needed. This change in workflow from a two-person job to where one person takes care of the whole process allows for more attention to your job. The designer now has control from conception to completion. So the next time you make an order at Minuteman you’ll be in safe hands knowing Steve our designer will have complete control.

New Business Startups

Remember – First impressions count. Studies have proven that the first seconds of the initial meeting set the tone for future business relationships, so it’s important to get things done right. It’s also important that your business is reflected well whether it’s just a well-designed business card or a corporate look with business cards, flyers and information stored smartly into a presentation folder.

The next step is to be remembered at the critical time when the client is looking to purchase. The magic is when your useful promotional material and contact information will remind them of your services when they are looking to place that order.

Student Portfolio printing PART 1

As a student in a creative field you have probably been thinking of the best way to present your years or sweet and tears (your work). Today there are a number of mediums to showcase your creative skills to the world. Posting your work on a site as it’s created is a good way to get the word around. Making your own website is a great way to get the word out to. However if you have thought about printing a portfolio I’ve got a few pointers for you.

First point is if you want to use small fonts such as Helvetica light at 6pt then stick to 100% black. This way you’ll avoid any loss of detail making it easier to read.

Second point is bleed. Always set at least 3mm of bleed off the edge of your file and don’t place any thing vital to the design closer than 5mm from the edge. Digital printers have a tendency to ‘shift’ leaving you unhappy with how the design is placed.

Third but not last is binding. If you want your job bound then make sure there is at least 10mm from the spine. To many students have been left with there text punched out by a wire bind.

So far I’ve only mentioned the light font, bleed, and binding. I’ll bring some helpful hints soon.

The Benefits of Digital Printing

Using Minuteman Press Frankston to digitally print your items produces a much better result than printing at home.

It also has a number of other benefits that can make it a better option than offset printing when you are hiring someone to do the job.

For example:

To print digitally, a fixed master is not required. As a result, it is a far more cost-effective option.

It is possible to print in small quantities even when full-colour printing is required.

Doing a run of just a few prints is an option with digital printing, as there is no hefty cost to setup for this process.

This is great for when you’re testing a marketing idea and want some feedback prior to printing in larger volumes.

Additionally, this also means that when a small additional quantity is needed after the first print run you can simply email us with a request to have more done.

Of course, having us complete digital prints on your behalf, rather than attempting your own print run at home is beneficial in other ways to.

The job is likely to be of a much higher quality due to better equipment, it will be produced in a much quicker timeframe and

any document preparation can be done more efficiently. Binding, cutting, and other tedious parts of the whole process are all taken care of.

So next time you think of trying to save yourself a few $$$, but waste hours in front of your printer reloading paper or changing ink cartridges,

wouldn’t it be worth a simple call and let us handle the job so you can be more productive with your day.

Identity Package Creation to Market Your Brand

At Minutemanpress Frankston we understand it is important that you present a clear picture of who you are

to both your clients and your prospective clients. After all, you want people to know who you are and what

you provide as a business.

This is where your branding is so important. You shouldn’t confuse people by putting out a variety of different

documents and publications that each brands you differently on an individual basis. Wiether you print flyers,

business cards, pull-up banners or even t-shirts, it is important to have an identity package created that

provides you with all of your marketing materials, as well as a cohesive strategy.

All of your material should be designed and printed to convey the same message and feature the same logo

and general format. This way when you hand out your marketing material, you are offering something for

people to recognise you by, and that also reflects a higher level of professionalism.

With Minutemanpress Frankston we can print your material either digital or offset ensuring you get the

best value to drive your marketing dollars further.

To continue your branding, you should have your online marketing materials match your offline ones.

This means setting up your website and your social media pages with the same colour-scheme, logos and

general format as your business cards and brochures. This way, without even reading about who you are,

someone that logs onto your website automatically makes the appropriate association. When this occurs,

you know you’ve effectively branded your business and that should be a goal of yours if you want your

company to be known.

Of course, in order to make the right impression, you do need your marketing materials to be of highest quality.

So, be contentious of who you give your printing services to!

Tips for Printing a Poster & Wide Format Printing

If you’re planning a digital print job that requires only a small amount of printing,

you may not think that it’s necessary to use the services of a professional printer.

But there are some jobs that are just too challenging to do at home if you want

high-quality result. For example, when doing wide format printing for a poster or banner.

You could try printing at home on a standard printer and piecing together the final

product like pieces of a puzzle, but that’s never going to deliver a high-quality result.

Additionally, if you try and piece multiple print-offs together, you will be limited to

printing on certain mediums only. Standard-sized photo paper is likely to be as good as it gets.

If you’re going to print a poster for a corporate function or another important event,

the quality of your poster matters. A professional printer has the technology available

to produce one cohesive piece using wide format printing.

Wide format printers are designed to accommodate jobs including those of a more

artistic nature and those produced for the architectural industry. As a result, the print

quality is high and this allows individuals to produce graphics of a higher quality than

is often available with typical digital printers.

Additionally, a print can appear on a variety of different mediums, where printers at

home are usually limited to photo paper at best. This can ensure that the result is far

more professional than the result of something produced on a standard printer.

Custom t-shirts

Looking to get a custom t-shirt printed?

It’s often the case that you have to order a massive quantity.

For those of you that want to get special t-shirts printed for something like a sports team, music concert,

corporate trade show or for a team charitable event, we have the perfect solution for you.

Minutemanpress Frankston makes this short-run printing possible through the use of heat transfer materials.

We can help you with simple one colour top or full colour custom t-shirt with your designs in

the quantity that you require.

If you intend to design your own custom t-shirt and send it in for printing, then there are a

number of things that you need to consider to get the quality that you desire:

  1. Ensure that any text is clear and readable – if you get too fancy with your font,
  2. your message may get convoluted, and if you have taken the time to design and print
  3.  a message on clothing; that’s just not the point!  You don’t have to choose something
  4.  plain, simply ensure that it is easy to read.
  5. Get rights to reprint images – if you intend to use an image that you source
  6. elsewhere, then you need to ensure that you have rights to reprint. Otherwise, you may
  7. find that you run into trouble with copyright. You can purchase a stock graphic online,
  8. go through a graphic designer, or simply contact the owner for permission.
  9. Make sure your image is of highest quality – you need to ensure that your image
  10. can be appropriately resized as needed without pixelating.  Get an image with a high
  11. resolution, and try increasing the size and creating a proof on paper in the size you
  12. desire before sending it in for official printing.

Once you’ve got your design finalised, you can begin the official print process and choose

the top you’d like to see your graphic appear on!
